Chapter 39

Caer was standing outside, and a crowd had gathered. “Okay, everyone, apparently it’s today!” Caer said, holding up a hand for calm. “Now. After the incident in the antechamber before it closed up, Tin and Iron individuals who want to farm the first room - assuming it has respawned - will have to do so under an antimagic field.”

That got a round of muttering from the crowd. Someone bold shouted. “What if we need to defend ourselves!”

“So far, the only threat in that room has been other people,” Caer shot back, his voice venomous. “You don’t like it? You can find a balanced group, or you can go home. There will be Warrior guards in place in case something comes through, since we won’t be restricting stamina-based abilities. They will also be present in case of any disagreements. If you feel something is unfair, you will involve them, and their word will be final.”

That seemed to mollify the group somewhat. At least enough for him to continue.

“Now. As a final note. It is very likely the dungeon has another floor now. If it’s following traditional dungeon difficulty scaling, that floor will be full of Copper tier mobs. I cannot stop any Tin group from thinking they can handle the challenge. I can tell you that I won’t mourn anyone stupid enough to try and fail.”

<Oh, I knew I forgot something,> Tira muttered, then quickly made the change. There were a couple gasps that made Caer look over his shoulder.

She’d added a new indicator below the first one, to show if people were on the first or second floor separately. Caer’s eyes widened, but he nodded and turned back to the crowed.

“It is certain the dungeon has another floor now. Everything I said before applies.”

Tira waited for the groups to start filing in, eager to see how her second floor held up.

The first group through was a mixture of Tin and Copper members. They lost their mage to the Falxraptor and withdrew immediately after that loss. The second group was all Tin, but they were prepared for the new threat, and made it all the way to Thago before withdrawing.

It hadn’t occurred to Tira she might not get anyone in her second floor today, but after the fifth group managed to defeat Thago and withdraw, it was starting to seem that way.

Group six was mostly copper, save for their tank, who was Tin nine. A bold mix, but they had two healers instead of one, with one of the healers replacing the usual mage slot. It meant they took longer to clear each room, but they were surviving with minimal difficulty up until Thago. There, her first floor boss managed to get a couple nasty hits in - breaking their tanks leg at one point - but the combined might of two healers kept everyone up.

“So,” said the tank, a man named Caldwell. “I didn’t get quite enough shards to hit Copper. Better luck tomorrow?”

“We did fine,” said their archer, a Copper Three Ranger named Graley.
